Save the right help channels before you arrive, along with your accommodation address and a way to contact your insurer or card issuer.
Choose the right help channel
- 112: police emergencies in Korea.
- 119: fire and ambulance emergencies in Korea.
- 1330: tourism information, interpretation and travel complaints. This is not a replacement for emergency dispatch.
In an immediate emergency, call the relevant emergency number rather than posting on a travel forum or waiting for a tourism chat reply. Follow the dispatcher’s instructions. If you cannot make a call, ask someone nearby to help contact emergency services.
Make your location easy to explain
Keep your hotel’s name, Korean street address and phone number in an offline note. When asking for urgent help, give your location, what happened and a callback number if you have one. A building name, floor, station exit or visible landmark can help explain where you are. Do not delay contacting help while trying to compose a perfect translation.
Use 1330 for travel problems
KTO provides telephone and real-time chat assistance. Dial 1330 within Korea or +82-2-1330 from overseas. Its official page links to online call and messenger options. These can be useful for ordinary travel questions and communication difficulties.
For example, if you cannot understand a venue’s admission conditions, prepare the venue name, the date and the question you want answered. For a travel complaint, retain the receipt, booking confirmation and the business details so you can describe the issue clearly.
If you lose an item
Start with the place or operator where you last had it. Write down the time, route, train or bus details, seat if known, and a description that distinguishes your item. Use the operator’s official contact channel rather than sending identity documents to a stranger who replies to a public post.
For a missing payment card, contact the issuer through its app or official number to discuss blocking the card and next steps. For a missing passport, contact your embassy or consulate about replacement documents and any reporting requirements. Procedures depend on nationality and circumstances; a photo of a passport is not a replacement travel document.
Prepare a small offline help kit
- Your accommodation address and one trusted contact.
- Your insurer’s assistance number and policy reference, if insured.
- Official card-issuer and embassy contact details.
- Booking references for the next transport and accommodation.
- A charged phone and a backup way to access the information.
Check what calling features your tourist SIM includes. Data access does not mean a plan includes ordinary voice calls. Read our SIM and eSIM guide before choosing a plan, and open the official help page once before departure so you know where its chat controls are.
